UPSC Engineering Services Examination Main 2021
Union public services commission (UPSC) conducts the Indian engineering services (IES) also known as Engineering services examination (ESE) to recruit engineers in the government sector this exam goes under the group-A services/posts. The examination is conducted in three-stage that is the stage I, stage II, and stage III. In stage I and stage II there is a written examination after that qualified candidate has to attend the personality test to clear the IES/ESE. ESE/IES Main 2021 Exam pattern (stage II)
In the Engineering services 2021 main exam there are two papers in each Engineering Discipline and these papers are divided into four categories, which are given below
- Category-I Civil Engineering
- Category-II Mechanical Engineering
- Category-III electronic Engineering
- Category-IV Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

On paper-I which starts at 9 A.M, you have to write five answers out of Eight and on Paper-II you have to write five Answers out of eight. There is a maximum of 300 marks for each paper of the ESE Main 2021 Examination.
There is no negative marking for this examination but you have to write the exam in good writing otherwise 5% marks will be deducted for each answer, so be careful while writing the IES main 2021 examination.
To get the full credits for each answer you have to write to the point with the economy of words, if you write a very long answer you won’t get full marks so please write the point-to-point answer.
Eligibility for ESE 2021 main Examination
- To write the ESE main 2021 exam you have to first qualify prelims (stage-I) with an average above 220 marks in your Engineering discipline.
- Prelims cutoffs are different for every Engineering discipline according to the question paper difficulty and many other factors.
- In 2019 prelims the lowest cutoff was from the Mechanical Engineering stream which was 187 marks out of 500 marks. And second-lowest is 188 marks from the civil engineering stream.
